Pour traduire "tout", on peut aussi utiliser whole, en parallèle avec all devant un nom dénombrable singulier (faisant référence à quelque chose qu'on peut diviser) :
All the country mobilised. = Tout le pays se mobilisa. The whole country mobilised. = Le pays en entier se mobilisa.
All his team is sick. = Toute son équipe est malade. His whole team is sick. = Son équipe en entier est malade.
All ne peut être suivi de a(n). Pour traduire "tout un(e)" on utilisera a whole We bought a whole bag of sweets. = Nous avons acheté un paquet entier de bonbons. (tout un paquet)
They stayed a whole week on holiday. = Ils sont restés toute une semaine en vacances.
Devant un nom propre, ou un pronom, on utilisera all of / the whole of :
I've seen all of 'Titanic'. = j'ai vu tout "Titanic". I've seen the whole of 'Titanic'. = j'ai vu tout "Titanic".
I bought all of it. / I bought it all. = J'ai tout acheté. I bought the whole of it. = J'ai tout acheté.
All est obligatoire devant un nom indénombrable
He has drunk all (of) the coffee. = Il a bu tout le café
